One minute, you’re excited about your vacation – the next minute, you are coping with the stresses of airline travel. Sure, it’s a small price to pay for a trip to an exciting new destination, but long-haul flights can leave you feeling exhausted and irritated at the best of times.
Travel blogger Devon Alexis is passionate about sharing the best travel tips and advice with readers on her blog. Today, she shares her top 4 tips for surviving a long-haul flight.
- Choose your outfit wisely. Think “pajamas that are acceptable to wear in public”. Don your comfiest outfit and dress in layers – you never know if the cabin is going to be freezing or too far on the warm side. Chuck on a comfy pair of sneakers, and consider wearing compression socks if you need them. Don’t put on a bunch of jewelry because it will make going through security a nightmare.
- Choosing your seat – if you can, upgrade to that sweet exit-row seat. If not, try to opt for a seat either in the aisle or by the window. The aisle is great if you want to get up and walk around, and the window seat is good because you’ll have something to lean on while you sleep. No one wants the middle seat.
- Bring healthy snacks and an empty bottle of water to fill up after you get through security. It is important to stay hydrated to ward off jet lag. The only caveat with the healthy snacks is that, if you decide to bring fresh fruit or veggies, you’re gonna have to eat them before you go through customs when you land.
- Download some entertainment on your phone or tablet before you head for the airport. Sometimes, the in-flight movies can be a letdown, and no one wants to pay for onboard WiFi if they have it at all. Save yourself the hassle and watch all the shows you’ve been meaning to binge.
