If you are in college and interested in studying abroad, you should absolutely take the opportunity! Being able to live in another country for a few months is an incredible way to experience a culture that is different from yours.
If you are preparing for a semester abroad, there are some tips to make sure you have the time of your life. Guided by an adventurous heart, Devon Alexis is a travel blogger who loves to explore. Today she shares her top 4 tips to make the most out of your study abroad experience:
- Take as few classes as you possibly can. Yes, you want to make sure you are taking enough classes to stay on track with your education. However, you don’t want to miss out on being able to explore the new country you are in! It is also important to not go overboard if your classes are in another language.
- Keep a journal of your time abroad, and take as many pictures as possible. A journal will give you the space to process all of these transformative experiences, and you’ll have a record of your adventures.
- Make friends with local people, not just your fellow students. As an international student, it is really easy to stick with your circle of other international students. This is great, but remember to make connections with people living in the country as well.
- Hold off on booking your return flight. Once the semester ends, stay a while longer and travel around if you can. You are already there, you might as well extend your stay.
